Clements Ribeiro at The Edinburgh Fashion Festival

On Friday night the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival began with a bang. Fashion was only added to Edinburgh’s extensive portfolio of festivals last July, and after achieving great success it would seem that the fashion festival is around to stay. 

Clements Ribeiro, an acclaimed fashion duo and real life couple descended on Edinburgh to open this year’s fashion festival and to showcase their Autumn/ Winter collection. This was something not to be missed, so after scooping three tickets, Frankie, Jen and I got our glad rags on, and headed out to get our fix of fashion.

We started off by soaking up the last of the evening sun with a glass of vino in the garden. There was plenty of chatter, laughter and a little photo taking.

 

The show was held at Mansfield Traquair, an incredible converted church in Edinburgh’s city centre. With high ceilings and beautiful artwork, it really is one of Edinburgh’s most fabulous, and may I add undiscovered venues.

Everybody lined the runway in anticipation for the show to start.

 

The models all started doing their thang and boy did they look good. All of the models were rocking big, messy hair with dark, dramatic eye make up. It went well with the style of the collection and the punk twist that is present in all Clements Ribeiro fashion. 

 

There was plenty of floral pattern, lace and tartan, all of which are classic of Clements Ribeiro. They pride themselves on being a British brand which always remains at the heart of each of their collections. Thats not to say that they dont put their own quirky twist in their too.

 

 

 

  

This piece was my favourite of the entire collection. I've always been a sucker for a bit of sparkle, but i loved the floral collar that they had added to this piece. It really set this dress apart from your standard sparkly, sequin number, and just made it ever more eye catching. 

 

In no time it was over and the models were all filing out for the finale. Thats the thing with fashion shows. You really could blink and miss it.

 

After all of the excitement was over it was time to discuss the show over a cold glass of fizz. We nattered away for hours until it was time to call it a night. A good nights sleep was in order as we were heading to The Open Golf Championship the next day. Thats a story for tomorrow.

Absolute Angel

When I wrote my post on Cannes a few days ago, Alessandra Ambrosio had yet to grace the red carpet of the sumptuous film festival. Since then she has made three breathtaking appearances, and as a red carpet obsessor, there was no way that these episodes could be ignored! So where do I even begin with this Brazilian Beauty?!

It all began on Tuesday when Alessandra stepped out onto the red carpet at the De Grisogono party held at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, Cannes. The Victoria’s Secret angel wore a fully embroidered yellow Elie Saab Spring 2013 gown which featured a thigh-high slit to show off her never ending legs! I have read a bunch of reviews of people saying they hate the matchey matchey yellow shoes, but i dont think their too bad!

The following evening played host to the‘All is Lost’ premiere, and this bronzed bombshell was there once again to do some serious head turning! Dressed in a jaw dropping silver Roberto Cavalli gown, there are really no words that can be used that will do this ensemble justice! What i love the most is that she is almost completely covered! Irina Shayk graced the same red carpet half naked and didnt even look half as good as this! In this case, less is definately not more! And let’s not forget now that this woman has popped out two children…! Here's hoping that I look like this when I reach that stage…

Alessandra then popped off to another star studded bash on wednesday evening. The host was none other than Roberto Cavalli, who was holding a champagne popping affair on his private yacht. Talk about living the dream…! Dressed in another of the Hosts designs, the model partied the night away with the likes of Princess Charlene of Monaco and fellow model Erin Heatherton. This blue gown is probably my favorite of these three creations, as the color is truly unbelievable! Fancy giving us a lend now that your done with it? Thanks.

Cannes Credentials

Another week, another red carpet for the stars! This week swarms of A-listers descended on the French Riviera for a 12 day cinematic bonanza, otherwise known as the Cannes Film Festival. There has been no shortage of scandal with a gun scare, a $1million jewellery theft and enough rain to float Noah’s Ark, but that certainly hasn’t taken the shine off the glitz and glamour of the red carpet. So let’s take a look at the line up of stylish stars, and see who really brought some sparkle to the south of France.

 

To kick it off it has to be none other than the Met Balls leading rock chick, Cara Delevigne. Her Burberry ensemble knocked it out at the park at the Met ball, and she certainly didn’t let her standards slip this time. Dressed in another beautiful Burberry gown with a plunging neckline and lace detailing, the British model looked truly amazing! Can she ever get it wrong?!

Next up is the beautiful Emma Watson in Chanel Couture. As one of my favourite young actresses, I always love to see what she will pull out when it comes to gracing the red carpet, and in this case she certainly did not disappoint! She couldn’t have looked better in her monochrome Chanel Gown, but then again, is it actually possible to look bad in Chanel!?

Another beauty flying the flag for British style was Cheryl Cole, dressed in a maroon Zuhair Murad creation. I would go as far to say that this is one of her best ever red carpet appearances to date! The dress is absolutely beautiful! From the detailing to the color, it is perfection! She looks like a true Hollywood A-lister, and my girl crush is continuing to grow!

Our final red carpet beauty for today has to be Dutch Model Doutzen Kroes. A far cry from her usual Victoria’s Secret get up, but absolutely breathtaking nonetheless! She hit the red carpet earlier in the week in a peachy Versace number, but she really knocked it out the Park in this stunning White Calvin Klein masterpiece! There really are no words for this except Wow!

 

Best dressed at the Baftas

Last night saw the stars grace the red carpet once again for the British Academy Television Awards, otherwise known as the Baftas. TV personalities from the likes of Made In Chelsea and Strictly come dancing descended upon London’s Royal Festival Hall, all hoping to get there mits on one of the coveted awards. The cast of Made in Chelsea scooped the Bafta for the best Reality and Structured Factual, and Alan Carr took home the bacon for the best Entertainment performance. However, though who won what is an important part of the evening, it goes without saying that the spotlight also shines brightly on all of the outfits, glamour and wardrobe malfunctions- and boy were there plenty!

 

 

 

So let’s kick things off this Monday morning by looking at who stole the show in the style department!

 

 

Millie Mackintosh is one who never fails to impress. I’ve blogged previously about how much I love her style, so it should come as no surprise that she tops my list of the best dressed from last night’s shenanigans. Millie wore a beautiful, plunging, black cut out gown which featured daring thigh high splits. She paired it with to die for Black Louboutin sandals and a jewelled clutch. Unfortunately for Millie, the wind wasn’t on her side and she also tops the list of one of the worst wardrobe malfunctions. Red carpet posing disaster!

 

She was one of my favourites from last week’s Met Ball, and last night Sienna Miller did it again. Sienna looked effortlessly perfect in a powder blue Matthew Williamson dress. She matched her dress with Louboutins and vintage jewellery, which completed her look down to a tee. Miss Miller proves time and time again what a style chameleon she really is, and I am always eager with anticipation to see what she will pull out the bag next! Top marks all round.

 

So there you have it, these two ladies were the only two who seriously impressed me from this year’s Baftas. There wasn’t even anybody that was so awful to justify a worst dressed post! Instead I felt that the rest were just a bit ‘bla’. Alright but not dazzling! So all in all, a pretty mediocre night on the red carpet.

Met Ball Madness

On Monday night the stars flooded the red carpet for the annual Costume Institute Gala, otherwise known as the Met Ball. The Met Ball celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute in New York, and boy is it a big date in every celebs diary.  It has become the ‘Night of Nights’ in terms of the fashion industry, as celebrities descend on the red carpet evening dressed to seriously impress. The event is hosted by none other than Vogue, and is regarded as the hottest social event in New York. Tickets are in the region of $10,000, with Vogues editor-in-chief Anna Wintour overseeing the guest list. My invite was obviously lost in the post... so trawling through the photos on Tuesday morning filled with FOMO was sadly the closest I was getting.
 

Each year the event has a theme, and this year the stars made their best attempts at ‘Punk’, some achieving considerably more success than others! Some embraced it, some ignored it and some just got it down right wrong! So who tore up the red carpet and who was on a path to style self destruction? Here is my scoop on the best and worst dressed at this year’s Met Ball!
 

So to kick it off with the Punk Princesses!
 

 

 

Anne Hathaway hit the red carpet sporting a Vintage Valentino dress and a fab new haircut to match. After cutting her long locks for her role in Les Miserables, Anne has embraced her short new look. Going blonde has certainly been a great choice, and it amped up her punk appeal big time! In my opinion, she absolutely nailed it!

 

She was already my ultimate girl crush, so it was no surprise to me that Cara Delevingne absolutely rocked it on Monday night. Sporting a plunging spiked Burberry dress, Cara brought some hardcore punk attitude to the red carpet, turning some serious heads in the process.

Nicole Richie looked absolutely exquisite in this Topshop Couture dress. It was the perfect choice for her tiny frame, and to be honest she couldn’t have been a better model for this dress! The detailing is beautiful, and I love that she embraced the punk theme by rocking the crazy hair!

 

 

Taylor Swift made a half hearted attempt at Punk in this J Mendel dress by pairing it with smoky eyes and a pink streak in her hair. While her efforts at the punk theme could have been better, she couldn’t have nailed it with her dress anymore if she had tried. With the beaded neckline and cut out spider web lace, this dress was utterly beautiful!

Sienna Miller was another Burberry beauty at the Met Ball, showcasing both a spiked biker jacket and white gown by the designer. In my opinion, she created pure punk magic, and after welcoming her first child less than a year ago, she couldn’t be looking better!
 

And now for the rotten rebels...
 

Where to even begin with this monstrosity? After being blacklisted from the Met Ball in previous years, Kim Kardashian finally made it onto the guest list. She hit the red carpet in this Givenchy number after apparently being unable to fit her bulging baby bump into her first option. The floral print, matching shoes, high neckline and sleeves that turn to gloves are only a few of the offences that this outfit is committing!! More to the point, nothing says punk like floral print right?

Beyonce is a woman who normally hits the red carpet looking smoking hot, but unfortunately on Monday night her flame had fizzled out! This Givenchy dress is not only unflattering, but the print is awful. And let’s not even start on those matching boots...!

Sarah Jessica Parker slipped into a Giles Deacon dress, and I have to admit that I wish she hadn’t! Yes she did try to embrace the theme so credit is due there, but the combination of tartan boots, eccentric print and that bizarre head piece is all just a bit too much!
 

Style Chic

I know I’m a little late on writing this blog post. However, I’m an avid believer that everything is better late than never! So here it goes...

Last week Kristen Stewart was named the best dressed women for the second year in a row, beating the likes of Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham! I must admit this revelation came as an unwelcome surprise to me. I would almost go as far to say that Kristen Stewart would feature on my list of worst dressed celebrities!! I will admit that she does always nail it when it comes to her red carpet appearances, but her usual attire of jeans, t-shirts and baseball caps isn’t really my cup of tea...

 

Instead, when it comes to style, I take my pointers from the women who I feel look effortlessly chic day after day. So that is why I thought I would write a small post on my top 3 style icons. In no particular order they are...

 

Millie Mackintosh: Quality Street heiress, star of Made in Chelsea and girlfriend of Professor Green.
 

Rosie Huntington- Whitely: Victoria’s Secret Model turned actress
 

Miranda Kerr: Victoria’s Secret Model and wife of Orlando Bloom

 

All of these women epitomize what great style is to me, and incorporate all of my favourite styles into their outfit’s day in day out. Skinny jeans, stripes, tailored trousers, ankle boots, blazers and long sleeve t-shirts are just a few of these!
